Guy Fawkes is coming up and there will be fireworks, which is ridiculous, especially if you don’t live in England. Fireworks can really traumatize pets.
While fireworks shows are really beautiful, they should be in a controlled and safe environment No need to shoot them off in your backyard like some kind of hick. And I don’t see the point of firecrackers at all. Seriously, are we trying to ward of evil spirits Is this ancient China? They just make noise. If you want to waste your money like that rather buy a lottery ticket, you’ll at least have a one in a gazillion chance to win a bit of money. If you want to do something, read up on English history or watch V for Vandetta, it has Natalie Portman in it for crying out loud.
During fireworks please keep your pets safe and indoors. If they have a microchip, make sure it’s registered and that your info is up to date. If they tend to be nervous and spooked by noises, ask your vet for a sedative or try a natural remedy.
In other news, today is Halloween. Will Gabi be getting pumpkin treats? Her cute little face says she will.
To those who celebrate: Happy Easter. To the rest: Have an awesome long weekend.
Not sure what we’ll be doing this long weekend, probably chilling at home and taking walks.
Dog related events in Joburg this weekend:
- SAINTs has a 2nd hand book sale on Saturday 7 April. Outside Ocean Basket, Northriding in aid of Barking Mad. (9:00 – 14:00)
- Pick and Pay & Nutriphase’s Animal Carnival 6-9 April 2012. Kyalami Eqeustrian Park.
Yesterday I baked some dog biscuits for Gabi. I added a bit of ginger to the dough. She seems to like ginger bread and drives me nuts whenever I’m eating a cookie. I used the small cookie cutter to make some really small cookies which I can use for training.
Gabi’s dew claw (thumb nail) is no longer an issue. The other day I decided to cut off another piece of nail while she was clam and lying with her paws exposed. As I cut, she yelped and jerked and the rest of the loose nail tore off. I guess it was a bit like pulling a baby tooth. I put on some antiseptic and a plaster (band-aid), but the plaster didn’t stay on long. I found it today in the front garden.
We gave Gabi a bath today and she feels incredibly soft. My new fleece blanket was washed this morning and Gabi and I have been cuddling on it this evening. She is also wearing her sweater so everything is just warm and fuzzy.
Today I bought Gabi her first outift (well since living with me). I got her the Dog’s Life: Striped Wooly Pully. I wanted to get the large because it sounded like the best fit according to her chest and neck measurements though I did think an L would be a bit short on her back… Even though I asked for large the sales lady gave me an XL. I only noticed that I got the wrong size when I got home. I tried on the XL and it was a good length although it is a bit baggy. My mother suggested we keep the XL and Gaby seemed comfortable in it, so it kept it.
The only problem is… she can’t get out through the Treli-door! The collar, which is quite wide around her neck gets stuck. She tries going through between different bars, but it doesn’t seem to help. ;)
For goodness sake! When I’m looking at little doggy outfits on your website, I can see from the picture that my dog would look frikkin adorable in the little jacket or bunny out fit. I don’t need you to throw cutesy sales adjectives. Just tell me: Do you use faux fur, or was some poor little creature slaughtered for that collar trim? I shouldn’t have to e-mail you about it, it should be on your page… or at least in the FAQs.
Edit: At the time of me writing the rant, the pet clothing company in question replied to my mail and assured me they use faux fur. I do still find however, a general lack of information regarding pet supply companies
